During the week 13-17 March 2023, seven teams from African think-thanks, universities, government agencies and international organisations joined unit D4 for a workshop focusing on tools for ex-ante economy-wide analysis.
The workshop aimed to enhance researchers' analytical skills for evaluating food security and sustainable development policies in Africa as part of PANAP network's broader initiative.
The workshop covered a range of topics, from building social accounting matrices (SAMs) to computable general equilibrium.
The workshop also provided a platform for participants to share experiences and best practices, fostering an environment of collaboration and knowledge.
All participants engaged through hands-on sessions on the use and calibration of country-focused modelling frameworks.
The ambition of JRC D4 is to help create independent modelling capacity across PANAP partner institutions.
Among the specific projects discussed, the impacts of the recently established African Free Trade Agreement on national economies, was one of the most relevant ones.
