Welcome to the 3rd 2025 newsletter of The Pan-African Network for economic Analysis of Policies (PANAP)!
1. News & events
PANAP Membership
Individual members of the Pan-African Network for the Economic Analysis of Policies (PANAP) contributed to the shared mission to strengthen the liaison between researchers/scientists and policymakers in Africa, and to stimulate cooperation on selected policy priorities that reinforce the stability and enhance the development of African agriculture and food sectors.
The Network wishes to extend its our membership to include organizations/institutions (NGOs, Universities, Research Institutions, Donors etc) that align with our vision to contribute to and benefit from this growing community.
We wish to encourage your organization/Institution to officially come on board.
Benefits to Organizational/Institutional members include:

2. Spotlight
PANAP Mentorship Programme for African Researchers
PANAP is organising a one-year mentorship programme for (early-career) researcher of African nationality, working on sustainable agriculture and rural development in Africa.
Besides mentorship from a senior researcher from the JRC and partners to develop a co-authored publication for a high-impact agricultural economics journal, selected mentees can benefit from
- Access to cleaned datasets and/or
- A new JRC farm-level model and
- Full funding for participation in the 8th African Conference of Agricultural Economists (ACAE).

Deadline for application: 15 December 2025.
3. Upcoming events
GTAP 29th Annual Conference on Global Economic Analysis June 17-19, 2026, Kyoto (Japan)
PANAP is offering support for the participation of one African researcher at the annual GTAP Conference.
The aim is to encourage applied, policy-relevant research relating to African agri-food system issues using CGE modelling.
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must:
- be an African national and a PANAP member. If interested, please proceed with a (free) membership application. For enquiries on the membership, please feel free to JRC-PANAP@ec.europa.eu
- actively engaged in conducting policy-relevant, CGE model-based analyses of African agri-food system issues or dealing with parameter or data issues to support such analyses.
- upload their CV and the finished version of their paper on the abstract submission form.

8th African Conference of Agricultural Economists (ACAE)
The African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAAE) opened the Paper Submissions Portal for the 8th. The conference will be held 22–25 September 2026 in Nairobi (Kenya), under the theme: “Smart Agriculture: Innovation, Digital Transformation, and Trade for a Climate-Challenged Africa.”
Researchers, practitioners, and policymakers are invited to submit their work and contribute to critical conversations on advancing Africa’s agricultural transformation at the online submission portal: https://aaae-africa.events/submissions/
