This dashboard has been developed by the Joint Research Centre to understand a stronger alignment of production standards applied to imported products notably on pesticides, on the EU’s agricultural sectors. It provides information on the scope of such an alignment in terms of countries, commodities and active substances.

Data has been obtained for:

  • Active substances currently not approved in the EU – from the EU Pesticide Database
  • Classification of those substances using the harmonized hazard categorization – from the ECHA-CHEM supplemented by EFSA for endocrine disruptors
  • MRLs for the substances not approved in the EU and falling under most hazardous pesticides – from the EU pesticide database
  • Use status for active substances by countries and active substance – from Homologa®: "The Global Crop Protection Database".
  • Use status data for ACP countries is supplemented by information compiled by COLEAD from multiple national sources, providing a homogenized overview of pesticide registrations and use status. This overview is based on the latest national lists of registered plant protection products made available to COLEAD by 27 ACP countries and two regional organisations (CSP and CPAC), covering a total of 39 ACP countries.

As the level of detail and completeness may vary between national lists, users are strongly encouraged to consult the relevant national authorities for confirmation or additional information where needed. Note that the raw national datasets cannot be shared without the explicit permission of the respective national authorities.

  • Total samples and residue levels for active substances from import controls and market samples – from EFSA
  • Total EU Imports of commodities from third countries and country specific imports – from COMEXT database from Eurostat
  • Total exports of commodities from third countries – from Exports to the UN Comtrade database of the United Nations.
  • Domestic agricultural production of commodities – from the FAOSTAT database of the Food and Agriculture Organization.

Self-sufficiency has been calculated as: (TOTAL EU PRODUCTION / (TOTAL EU PRODUCTION + EU IMPORTS - EU EXPORTS))* 100

Data on authorization was accessed on February 2026 and can only be considered representative of the situation on that date. Data on trade and production is provided as is and covers the period 2021-2023.

Data sources on authorization are proprietary and the JRC is not permitted to share the raw data.

With this version, the "No Adapt – No Scale" and "Switch EFSA+ 20%" scenarios cannot be replicated, as they rely on proprietary data on active substance authorisation status from Homologa® and COLEAD, which cannot be shared or redistributed under the terms and conditions of the data access granted to the JRC. If interested please contact the respective data providers for details on access modes.

Data is presented as obtained from the original sources. The data presented does not translate into any policy decision or priorities.
